Does the 'best before' date mean ON that day, or BEFORE that day?

If my Guava is 'best before' July 6, does that mean I can eat my Guava ON July 6, or do I have to eat it BEFORE July 6 (ie July 5)? I somehow went through highschool never learning the answer to this question.

Technically, it means NOTHING. It is just an arbitrary date set up by someone in a marketing firm.

best before you can eat it on the date itself, you can even eat it after the day itself. Best before is like the freshness of the product. The freshness of the product it is at its best quality. After the date there will be some deterioration.

I guess in school it is taught on the topic of reading labels, at the expiry date section , after the topic of perishable and non perishable food.
