How does a lizard learn to break its tail?

I know it breaks it tail when it is under an attack from a predator but how does it know that it can break its tail? What i mean is somebody has to teach it to do so?

There are two types of lizards. One type has a tail that won't break, and the other type has the ability to break its own tail when it is stressed. The tail has an autotomous zone or self breaking zone and by constricting muscles. It is not something that is learned and no lizard ever goes to class or watch other lizards break their tails. It is instinctive behavior and is encoded in the genes.

It is instinctual in all skinks.

From the information in its genetic code.
