How is social distancing effecting groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous which centers around meetings, often large meetings?

No "large meetings" anymore.
Everyone has to wear a mask.
Chairs are arranged 6' apart in a circle to observe social distancing guidelines.
Coffee is still a thing but no more people bringing in treats from home.
Also, people standing around smoking outside before and after has stopped.

Psychotherapy of any kind (and yes, AA is a form of psychotherapy) is not as effective when conducted by remote means as it is conducted face to face. Several studies have shown this. Thus, social distancing poses a dilemma with this kind of thing that must be decided based upon a benefit / risk analysis together with the consideration of measures that can be used to prevent the spread of Hcov-SARS-2, such as masks, etc.
