If the "Snowpiercer" was a real train, how long would it be?

On the show, they say it has 1000 cars and an unspecified amount of locomotives. Where would there be sidings long enough to handle it?

There would not be sidings long enough, but it wouldn't matter.  Sidings are needed only to stop (which the train doesn't do) and to pass other trains (which wouldn't be running, since there's no one alive who isn't on the train).
